New Thaba Moshate Hotel Casino and Convention Resort

Tuesday, December 23, 2014

The Thaba Moshate Hotel Casino and Convention Resort construction team has successfully recovered lost production time during the Metalworkers Union Strike and is once again on track for the grand opening in early 2015. Located in the Limpopo province, between the R37 from Burgersfort to Polokwane and the R555 road to Steelpoort, the R320 million Peermont Hotels Casinos and Resorts investment will not only be a major boost for the Burgersfort area, but will also drive enterprise development and job creation within the Greater Tubatse Municipality.

All ‘hard’ construction at the resort, including the installation of ceilings, air-conditioners and bathroom tiling at the 3 star Metcourt hotel, is now completed - whilst construction in the Convention Centre and lobby areas is nearing completion. Civil works including road infrastructure and water drains are substantially completed as the project management team reached two major milestones in the building process with the recent connection of water and sanitation.

“We are satisfied with the construction progress and more importantly the total number of work opportunities created through this development. The selection of local employees, particularly female workers, exceeded our promise to the community,” said Clifford Ngakane, newly appointed Thaba Moshate General Manager. “Thaba Moshate’s local employment drive is aligned to the demographic profile of the Greater Tubatse Municipality and we are happy to announce that we have also surpassed our commitments with regards to local and BEE procurement during the construction phase,” Ngakane concluded.

After receiving more than 3 000 CV’s from applicants for consideration for the training school, a careful selection and selection process has resulted in the gaming training school, currently underway.  This phase will continue until opening, whereafter training will continue in the operating phase. Successful candidates are undergoing a rigorous interview process to ensure that individuals are placed from the Greater Tubatse Municipality and the Sekhukhune area, as part of Thaba Moshate’s commitment to local job creation.

“The selection criterion was very strict to ensure that we get the very best candidates from the area. 700 applicants wrote numeracy and literacy assessments”, said Malebo Mpepele, Group Training and Development Manager at Peermont. “The top 150 candidates were interviewed and 79 were then placed into the training school. We aim to employ all the trainees who complete the training programme,” added Ms Mpepele.  Food and beverage, as well as hotel training, is expected to commence in February 2015.
